The purpose behind Shanti Yoga is to enroll kids ages 7-12 into a lifelong practice of Yoga. Our mission is to make yoga accessible to kids by teaching yoga postures and life principles in a fun-filled, loving, noncompetitive environment where everyone feels welcome.
In this six week series, kids will learn a progressive set of simple yoga postures combined with lighthearted exploration of basic yoga principles on living (8 limbs, power of thoughts, breath work, meditation) and how to easily apply these exercises and principles into their everyday lives. Students will not only energize and strengthen their bodies, but they will also learn techniques to relax their busy minds, combat stress, and better deal with life’s challenges (body image, peer, athletic and academic pressures).
Practicing yoga not only leads to improved physical fitness, it also helps kid’s develop a positive mind-set. Today’s kid’s live in a fast paced digital world where over stimulation is the norm, and performance expectations begin much earlier in life than in the past. A yoga practice tailored specifically for kids can help ease the everyday stresses and pressures in their lives.
Yoga works on the whole body and is suitable for kids of all ages and physical ability. It is a relaxed, noncompetitive form of exercise that all children can enjoy! Many other forms of sports or exercise programs encourage over development of specific muscles through repetitive movement. Yoga can help counteract such extremes.
